I spent Thanksgiving evening with G in the middle of Amsterdam. Hard Rock Cafe had a Thanksgiving dinner special, with every part of a traditional meal. We had corn chowder soup, turkey with stuffing/mashed potatoes/ etc, and pumpkin pie. We saw quite a few Americans and Netherlanders enjoying the dinner. The restaurant was completely sold out and they were turning away people without reservations. It was well worth the trip down to the city. The dinner was fantastic, and even G liked it.
We could’ve taken the tram to Amsterdam Centraal train station, but we walked instead. The streets were fairly active, but much quieter than usual. Last time I was in Amsterdam, we needed to plow through the crowds. We walked from the Rijksmuseum area to Amsterdam Centraal for the train. The city was beautiful at night with Christmas lights already up. It’s very special to be able to experience Thanksgiving on the other side of the world, especially like this. Quite a memorable evening!
