Old Photos

We went through my fiance’s family pictures and documents tonight. It was special to see faces from the past 130 years that helped create this family, and discern who looked similar. It was incredibly sad as well, to see all these people who are gone and what they witnessed. We found 1940s “evacuation papers” for razing a grandmother’s home, in order to build the Atlantic Wall against the Allies (and the after photo).Another document was notification of a family member’s death in a Nazi work camp. It makes me incredibly angry to think of everything done to this family was amplified in other millions of people too. If a different family member had been killed, many other people wouldn’t be here today, including G. History is a very powerful thing, especially in our families. To try and preserve these photos, we started a long project of scanning all of these photos in order to preserve them digitally. I am going through each one individually to correct damage that they’ve acquired over the decades, and deleting it digitally.
