I am flying back to the United States tomorrow to visit my father for two weeks. Tradition “mandates” that we eat sushi together before the trip, as a farewell. Recently we found a Japanese restaurant on the boulevard in Noordwijk. It has all you can eat sushi, one of my favorite things to eat! It’s a very modern restaurant along the shoreline, and it’s quickly becoming my favorite place. It was really warm today, but we were able to sit by a large window and watch people walk by the restaurant tonight. The sun kept the food a little warm, but it was still very nice. It was very laid back, and the perfect way to say farewell.
On a side note, today was a national day of mourning in the Netherlands for the victims of Malaysian Airlines flight MH17 shot down over the Ukraine. Remains were flown here with great ceremony, and landed in the southern part of the country. As a gesture of respect, bells in the Netherlands began ringing for five minutes before 4 pm this afternoon. Once it hit 4 pm, everyone remained silent for a minute. The wind was blasting throughout the minute, but the bells were loud enough to overcome the sound. I recorded a moment of the bell ringing before the silence. I stood at the window listening to the wind and the bells while providing my remembrance of these victims.
