Busy Start

Friday introduced the beginning of my fourth trip to the Netherlands to see my boyfriend. Thursday ended with a bang, involving a late night phone call, middle of the night packing, one hour of sleep, a final exam, so on and so forth. After working for six hours, I hit O’Hare airport. The international terminal is the best to fly out of, because security and the subsequent wait are decent. I had a non-stop KLM flight starting at 4:30pm, so it turned into an overnight flight.  The best part of the flight was getting the window seat with the middle seat next to me free. I woke at dawn over Scotland, and it wasn’t long until we landed in Amsterdam Schipol. I was at least forty minutes early.

Luckily G was super early to pick me up, and the car trip home was relatively short. I had a pleasant first meeting with his father, and we caught up on sleep since it was around 8 am. Around 2 pm we went to the local restaurant called “Friends”, a place I specifically requested to eat at again. Friends is in Katwijk, a coastal town. A short time after, we went to the Katwijk Museum. It contained the area’s history from the Roman to fishing town era.  We walked along the coast, near the museum, lighthouse, and the Andreaskerk a church. Andreaskerk’s steeple was cut off in World War II to prevent enemy forces from using high points along the coast line as identifying markers. After watching America’s Funniest Home videos at dinner, we developed the 120 film roll G shot on his new Lomo Lubitel TLR and an older 620 roll from my great-aunt’s Agfa 1940s camera.
