A Visit: Day 2

Today we took our visitor to Amsterdam. We went through long walks through the city, for a total of 14.5 km (9 miles). The weather was great, and made the walk fairly warm. We spent a large portion of the day there. We went via train to the main stop Amsterdam Centraal. Outside the train station is a free ferry which will carry people across the IJ river (running through the city). On the other side, there is some great modern architecture and an overview of the city. It was nifty sharing the ferry with everyone from pedestrians to bicycles and scooters. Much of our walk took us through the old canal neighborhoods of Amsterdam, lined by the beautiful old houses. Foodwise we tried everything from coffee, fries, and even Italian pizza with our guest. During the late afternoon, we visited the Stedelijk Museum of modern art. It houses everything from Andy Warhol to Vincent van Gogh artwork. On the way back, we even took a late night peek at the Red Light District. Our feet were absolutely dead lots of walking, but a visit to Amsterdam is certainly worth it.
