Today we spent our time in the city of Amsterdam. Due to the hazards and costs of driving there, we decided on the train from Leiden. In the car we ate Eierkoeken and Speculaas on the train. Throughout the morning and afternoon we looked at entering museums, but most had high entrance fees. The first place we hit was the Red Light District.
There were hookers in their undergarments waving from windows. Also there was a shop with condoms of all funny shapes and sizes hanging in the window. In between the Amsterdam buildings we walked through a series of entrances that led us to a Hofje (Courtyard) with very nice houses in the center. Afterward we took a break from our two hours of walking in McDonald’s. The only museum we found interesting enough (to pay the entry fees) was Foam photo museum. Some of the shots in it were overly done in photo shop and had photo sources such as Flickr. The older display of shots did not impress me very much, they were snapshot-ish. We wandered around for another hour and at 4:30 we walked back to Amsterdam Centraal to meet Rense, another person we know from deviantART. Due to a football game going on, there were loads of fans going crazy in the train station.
The police had a riot unit, mounted officers and a military helicopter on standby herding everyone into the station. We barely made it out after we met Rense at Burger King. We had dinner at San Thomas, a family restaurant where even the kids were waiting tables. We were there for quite awhile, and left the train station at 8 something. We estimate we walked 10 km, 6.2 mi throughout Amsterdam.
