Early Summer

Today we had temperatures so high, they declared it the first day of summer.  The sky alternated between dark grey and bright blue, but the sun eventually won out. My sister-in-law A stayed with us this week. Since we had beautiful weather, A and I went for a long walk on the beach. The air temperature was 27 C (81 F) minimum, but it felt much warmer in the sunlight. We were brave enough to put our feet in the sea, and the water was withstandable.

The area next to the water was littered every few meters with jellyfish, from big through small. Together we counted at least four different species of jellyfish had washed ashore. Parts of the beach had inlets of water trapped from low tide, with small rivulets of water running back into the sea. We decided to put our Dutch water management skills to work, and built levees (dikes) across the “little rivers” to block them up. Absolutely a fun day!
