Easter weekend started with a flood of color. The flower season is fully in gear, with flowers all over Zuid-Holland. We were also treated to dramatic Dutch skies full of golden sunlight. Easter weekend is particularly special in the Netherlands. There is an additional day of vacation granted on the Monday following Easter. Eerste paasdag (1st Easter Day) falls on Sunday, and Tweede Paasdag (2nd Easter Day) falls on Monday. We spent Eerste Paasdag in Belgium with my sister-in-law, brother-in-law, and my little niece. It was great celebrating with family and our walk through the Belgian countryside was especially memorable. The drive back to the Netherlands takes about two hours. During that time, a large storm system rolled overhead on the highway. As the rain hit, the sky blazed in shades of purple, pink, grey and gold. The skies were gorgeous and dramatic. I believe we spotted at least three rainbows!
