Long day

I was picked up at Shannon Airport, and traveled towards Lismore, Co. Waterford. I passed through Limerick on the way down, which was very busy and had more twists and turns than any city I have ever seen. It was a two hour drive to Lismore. Despite the lack of sleep on the plane, I was not tired at all. Early afternoon I took a bus to Cork City, and stopped in Fermoy. The bus stop was right next to great photographic spots, and I walked along the river and a park near the Blackwater river. A lot of rain had fallen the night before, so it was very muddy in some parts. I didn’t get too far along the path next to Blackwater, as part of it was very slippery and murky.

I missed two buses on the way to Cork, so I decided to drive around instead. There wasn’t any parking in the city, and it was fairly crowded. Irish cities are smaller than I expected and busier. After that, I went to Kinsale, which is a resort-ish town on the coast. It had very narrow streets, lots of boats and people. I stopped and sat outside a bar with some Guinness, which I learned that I do not like. However, it made for some interesting shooting material.

At sunset, Garretstown was next, which is a small town on the ocean. It had some very interesting cliffs, the like I have not seen before in the States. Also, the beach was quite different and not maintained or busy as the beaches are in Winnetka. That made it even more beautiful.

It was nightfall when I headed back to Lismore. The day was long, but I was not jetlagged at all. I was very tired and collapsed into bed right away. Overall I’d traveled 200 miles in one day! To see the route, click here.
