Autumn colors finally started showing in October. Holland is fading to yellow and orange. We were lucky enough to have plenty of sunny warm weekends. Last Sunday, we managed to ride 14+ km (7 miles) from our house to the sea and back. The weather was similarly hospitable this weekend, allowing us to spend a lot of time outdoors. We drove around on Saturday to take in the landscape. The last crops of the flower farms are finishing off with the cold weather. We also met some curious cows on a local dairy farm who gave us a thorough inspection. Today, we returned to the Waterleidingduinen (Water line dunes) straddling the border between North and South Holland. It is a nature area that serves as a collection basin for the nearby water supply. It lies on a hilly dune area along the sea coast. It is well maintained, with brick/mowed pathways and bridges throughout the area. We saw plenty of wildlife during our 11 km (7 mile) walk. It was very quiet, though we encountered many people in the park. We spotted plenty of deer and a variety of bird species. Our feet hurt badly when we left, but the experience was certainly worth it!

A boat sails beneath the bridge. We took a rest stop here during our bike ride.

A reiger (heron) watches us from the side of the bike path. There were an unusual amount of them along the bike path.
