Paastaken

It’s strange celebrating many of the same holidays here (in the same manner), but missing out on others in the meantime. The most noticeably absent (and fun) holidays are St. Patrick’s Day, Independence Day, and Halloween. Easter is one of the holdays that is celebrated in a similar manner to the USA with bunnies, egg hunts, and spring flowers. One of the “trendier” Dutch decorations for Easter are paastaken. They are short branches from a willow tree (usually) that are placed in a vase of water and decorated. The most commonly used decorations seem to be fake eggs and clip on birds. When the branches sit long enough, they will produce leaves and possibly even roots (making them transplantable).
