I miss having the day off for Thanksgiving, though it’s an American only holiday. We still had work and school, which made for a very long day. The roads and public transit were jammed due to rainy weather. It took us nearly 1.5 hours to reach Hard Rock Cafe for dinner in Amsterdam. It took another 45 minutes to wait for dinner, since they were completely packed. I heard many different kinds of accents tonight, including Dutch, British, American, etc. Hard Rock Cafe served a decent sized meal, with corn chowder soup, turkey, mashed potatoes, cranberry sauce, vegetables, stuffing, and pumpkin pie. The drinks were free refills too, which is a very rare concept in the Netherlands. It was an enjoyable dinner. The subsequent walk through Amsterdam was very quiet, but there was always something to see (quirky shops, pretty buildings and canals). It seems to be a little tradition to head into Amsterdam every year. Perhaps some year we’ll be adventurous enough to try Thanksgiving dinner at home!
