Winter is coming

It seems like only yesterday the days were filled entirely with rain and wind. I started school at my university in September, and the first few weeks of school quickly turned into typical Dutch autumn weather. Even on the lowest portions of the school, it was still possible to hear the wind howling outside. In many cases my umbrella ended up inside out or trying to flip that way! Despite the rain, the temperatures have been very hospitable. Even at the beginning of December, the average daily temperature is hovering around 41 °F (5 °C) to 50 °F (10 °C). The days shortened very quickly once October came around. Now it’s back to short winter days. In the winter, Chicago has several more hours of sunlight than the Netherlands does. However, in the summer the Netherlands has much more sunlight than Chicago, the sun staying up until almost 11 pm.

I don’t mind the advent of winter, as it means Christmas will be here soon. In fact, in ten days I’ll be taking a return visit to Chicago with G! We’ll be spending Christmas and New Year’s with my family in the United States. I am eagerly awaiting my visit home! 🙂 In the meantime, here are a few recent pictures from this season.
